The 919 Sauce — A Year in the Making

Crafting the 919 sauce wasn’t about rushing to fill a gap — it was about honoring a place. Raleigh, NC, is layered: it’s fast-paced yet easygoing, deeply Southern but infused with global and northern flavor. It’s a place where innovation and tradition meet, and we wanted a sauce that could do the same. So we didn’t cut corners — we gave the 919 over a year of testing, tasting, tweaking, and perfecting.

The Flavor: Sweet Heat Meets City Soul
At its heart, the 919 is our take on a mambo-style sauce — tangy, sweet, spicy, and full of swagger. We started with a base of tomato, honey, and vinegar, then added depth with warm spices like paprika, mustard, and garlic. A punch of cayenne and a touch of habanero give it just enough heat. It’s smooth, complex, and completely versatile.
The Secret Weapon: Bone Broth
We believe hot sauce should do more than just taste good — it should feel good. That’s why the 919 is built on a base of slow-simmered chicken bone broth. It's rich, savory, and adds an umami depth most hot sauces just don’t have. To our knowledge, we’re the only bone broth-based hot sauce brand out there. It’s not a gimmick — it’s a better foundation for real flavor.
Raleigh offers the best of both worlds. It's a close-knit community, but also has the culture and sophistication of a bigger city. Sarah Shepherd, owner of Heights House Hotel

How It Finally Clicked
We tested dozens of versions — too thick, too sweet, too sharp. Some felt flat, others felt too safe. But we knew what we were chasing: a sauce that could hold its own at a food truck, a backyard BBQ, or an upscale brunch spot in downtown Raleigh. When we finally got it — the right balance of tang, heat, sweetness, and backbone — we knew it was ready.
This One’s For the 919
We don’t make sauces just to sell bottles. Each one tells a story about a place. The 919 is our love letter to Raleigh and the surrounding Triangle. It’s a nod to the city’s dual nature — progressive and grounded, soulful and sharp. Try it on wings, roasted veggies, burgers, fries, or straight off the spoon. It goes on everything… and nothing, if you just want to drink it.
